Description
The 2027 Full Sovereign continues the return to traditional yellow gold that began with the 2026 bullion range. The Royal Mint has put silver back into the alloy in place of the higher copper content that gave Sovereigns their rose gold colour from 2000 to 2025, so the 2027 coin has the warm yellow finish of the Sovereigns struck from 1817 to 1999.
This product is exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and VAT.
Design of the 2027 Sovereign
The reverse carries Benedetto Pistrucci’s St George and the dragon, the design created for the first modern Sovereign in 1817 and still the hallmark of the series. The obverse carries the definitive coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Martin Jennings, with the inscription CHARLES III DEI GRA REX FID DEF.
Security features
The 2027 bullion Sovereign is the most secure yet, with security features on both sides. Microtext reading ‘HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE’, the motto of the Order of the Garter, runs around the reverse, and a latent image on the obverse changes appearance when the coin is tilted.
Specifications
Each Sovereign is struck in 22 carat gold (916.7 fine) with a gross weight of 7.98 grams, a fine gold content of 7.32 grams (0.2354 troy ounces) and a diameter of 22.05 mm. The face value is one pound, and the weight and purity are guaranteed by Royal Proclamation.
